St. Louis Rams owner Chris Long talks about potential sale
(AP) St. Clair County Sheriff Doug Mack, the owner of the St. Charles Rams, spoke with reporters Sunday about potential ownership of the franchise.
The Rams, which finished last season in the NFL’s second-last tier, are expected to be sold by the end of the year.
The NFL announced Monday it will be moving the team to Los Angeles.
St. Cloud State University is the preferred bidder for the Rams.
Mack is not a minority owner.
Stokes County Commissioner David Zogby, a Republican, is a minority partner.
The deal will allow Mack to buy the Rams with an additional $2.4 billion from St. Paul.
Stetson University is expected to get the team for $2 billion.
Stinsdale County Commissioner Tom Lutz, a Democrat, is the lone minority partner, with an offer of $2 million per year.
A St. James’ Square stadium, planned for completion in 2020, will not be built.
The team’s future is in question because of a $100 million lawsuit brought by former owners of the Rams, who have been sued by former players who claim they suffered emotional distress, loss of jobs and other benefits.
Lott is scheduled to deliver the news conference Sunday.
Stouts, who is in the final year of a contract extension with the Rams that runs through 2021, said Sunday that he would not comment on his talks with Mack or his plans for the franchise’s future.
“I’m not going to talk about the future,” Stouts said.
“My focus is on getting the Rams back in St. Joseph.”
Stokes also announced that he has asked his wife, Terri, to step down as a minority member.
Stottes said she is stepping down to focus on raising her children.
“We have a young family and I want to spend more time with them,” Stottens said.
Mack’s plans for a Rams franchise that includes a new stadium and a team-owned hotel and convention center in St Louis have not been finalized.
Stakes, a former NFL running back, is also the owner and chairman of the football operations committee of the NFL, which oversees the league’s 32 teams.
He also serves as the league president.
The St. Lucie County Board of Supervisors approved a $1.2 billion plan to build a $350 million stadium for the team.
Stays has been seeking to sell the team and its assets for at least $1 billion.
He was asked by Mack to consider a sale if the Rams were sold.
Mack said Sunday he has been considering the possibility of an NFL franchise in St-Louis since the beginning of the season.
“If we were to make a sale, it would be for an ownership group that could come together,” Mack said.
The franchise is owned by the St Louis Rams, LLC.
Stainsdale County commissioners and St. Croix County commissioners have also said they are open to the idea of buying the team, which includes the Stokes’ hotel and Convention Center, if a buyer is willing to invest $1-billion.
Stocksdale County Executive Rob Bell said Monday he has not heard from Mack.
Sticksdale County Board President Ron Stokes said Sunday it was important that Stocks’ board “find a buyer for this great team.”
St. Johns County Executive Doug Pendergast said he was looking forward to discussing Stocks plans with Mack.
“This has been an important day for me personally,” Pendergate said.
Stansdale County commissioner and St Louis Mayor Chris Coleman called on the NFL to consider the St Charles County plan.
“The St. Lucia Rams are a great sports franchise, and I hope the league will consider the merits of a St. Francis County plan for the St-Charles Rams,” Coleman said.
In recent weeks, the NFL has announced it will host its annual league meetings in Chicago.
The Chicago-based league has been struggling to turn a profit amid a host of negative events that include player protests and a scandal involving a major pro athlete who was arrested in Stetsons county and later charged with driving under the influence.
The league has said it has not received any offers to buy out the team or to create a team in the city.
“Our focus right now is to keep St. Michael’s on the field and to make sure our team and our players are as good as we can make them,” Coleman told reporters on a conference call Monday.
