How to sing ‘The Weeknd’ on the new album, ‘Weeknd: The Life That Changed My Life’
When The Weeknd first came to New York City in January, he was already a bona fide superstar.
In February, he performed on the Billboard 200 chart and won the 2016 Grammy for Best Rap Album.
And now, just over a month into his sophomore LP, The Weekends, he’s also a bona-fide superstar.
While it’s still early in the album’s development, we can expect some of the best songs from his career to make the cut.
As the New York Times’ Jonathan Chait wrote, “He’ll be singing ‘Warm’ as his lead verse on ‘Lose Yourself,'” a track that includes the chorus, “You’re my little sister, my little friend.”
The Weekend’s tracklist is still under wraps, but the first two tracks from the album are already out, with “You Don’t Know Me” and “The Love Club” on the way.
“You” is a classic song from his 2015 album A Seat at the Table.
The album also features the song “Ride,” a song that was a hit on the “Late Show With David Letterman” in 2016.
As for “Warm,” it’s the one that will become the song most associated with The Weekies in 2016: the lead single from The Weekenders second album.
It’s a song about an emotional rollercoaster, one that features lyrics like, “I’m the one who makes love, you’re the one I love.”
It’s also the song that the group first began to explore in its sophomore album, The Future.
And it’s a track from the songwriting process that’s been making the rounds lately.
The song has a lot of energy, and its lyrics are filled with all kinds of emotions, ranging from the hopeful to the heartbreaking.
And, yes, it’s about a relationship.
The Future and The Weeklies are two different projects from two different artists, but it’s hard to separate the two from each other when you’ve got two albums of the same name.
When it comes to The Weekender, the group has had a ton of time to reflect on their work and listen to new music.
In an interview with Vibe, singer-songwriter John Legend said that they wanted to get “away from the old stuff” and write “the new stuff” instead.
“The new stuff is really what we’re trying to do with the new albums,” he told the magazine.
“So the last few albums, the songs just kind of got a little stale.
They were more of a slog than anything else.
But with the next album, we really wanted to try something different.”
While it sounds like the songs on The WeekEND have a different vibe than the songs from their second album, the lyrics are the same.
“I don’t think you’re gonna get a song from this album that has the same energy as the next one,” Legend said.
“But the next song is just like, ‘I’m so sorry for you.’
It’s like, I love you so much.
And then the next verse is like, you made me cry.
And I was like, You’re the only one who can make me cry, so I was so mad.”
It might be a little hard to tell which songs are more “epic” or “classic,” but it was the lyrics that got Legend talking about The Weeknight Sessions.
“We were always trying to write some of these songs that have more of that feel and feel a little bit different, but still the same message,” Legend told Vibe.
“And that was always the big theme for the whole record.”
“I really feel like it’s just a way of exploring, like, what’s the most powerful song in your life?
Is it about a feeling?
Or is it about someone who’s doing something great?
And the last song on the album is a great song, but there’s a lot that goes into it.”
And the fact that the lyrics aren’t all that different is why it’s become so popular on the internet.
“It’s not the words that are really different, it just the way the lyrics work,” Legend continued.
“They have a certain feeling to them.
It just happens to be about you and your feelings and about something that’s happening to you right now.”
The song “Lose Yourselves” is another song that could be a reference to The Future’s “Losing My Religion,” but the words are slightly different.
“This song, we’ve done it for years, it really just goes to the feeling of, I’m really sorry,” Legend explained.
“If you’re in the middle of this and you don’t know what’s going on, and you feel like you’re drowning in this, that’s when the feeling comes.
And that’s why it resonates with people.
